Opening Ceremony!

The Summer Olympics are finally here! What a massive event!

It isn’t very often that the world has an event like the Olympics where the majority of the people living on this planet can enjoy one thing. Of course we have every Olympics but this year seems to be huge. There has been so much coverage with social networks that I thought it would be silly to not talk about it. I’ve never been a big watcher of sports or the Olympics but I think this year I might tune in. With all of the ways for the athletes to communicate with the public like twitter and Facebook pages, I actually feel more proud to be American and cheer for my country. A lot of the coverage over here has been stuff about how real the athletes are. I never really thought about them being funny or liking to sing in the shower because I’ve only ever seen them as intensely serious athletes. So seeing a video of the swim team singing Call Me Maybe just makes me proud that the people representing my country for this huge event are people I would want to be friends with. Even if they lose, I’m going to cheer them on because they’re my country and they’re great people. Tonight, so many people have watched the opening ceremony and seen the huge show. It was incredible in my opinion and I’m just excited that there is something we can all compete over but unite with. Watching the countries march with their flags and pride, makes me happy. For so many people it is such a huge moment in their lives and I think that it’s only right to honor that. Go Team USA! Oh and I got the picture from promotional ones for the Olympics.
